Responsible Thinking Classroom (RTC)

The Responsible Thinking Classroom is a key part of Livingstone’s commitment to helping students flourish not only academically but also in their character and emotional wellbeing. Like every classroom at Livingstone, the RTC exists to support student growth—for now and for life beyond school.

Students may attend the RTC for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Behaviour that is out of SHAPE (our Positive Behaviour Framework)

  • Needing a reset or break from the classroom

  • Suspension supervision and restorative reflection

  • Lunchtime consequences requiring guided reflection

  • Supervised exam catch-ups

  • Support for anxiety, school refusal, or emotional regulation

Within this space, students are guided through a reflection process that helps them identify the behaviour that brought them there, how they were feeling at the time, and what strategies or mindset shifts might help them respond differently next time. A key part of the RTC process involves Restorative Conversations, guided discussions between the student and staff to repair relationships and restore a positive learning environment.

Most importantly, the RTC is not about punishment but about growth. It’s a place where students are taught to take ownership of their choices and are equipped with the tools and strategies they need to successfully return to class and continue learning. It is a space of truth, grace, and restoration, helping students get back into SHAPE and flourish.
