At Livingstone Christian College Early Learning Centre we believe that effective early childhood education and care environments are instrumental in laying strong foundations for positive life outcomes. Our program is based upon a strong Christian ethos, and the belief that each child is a unique and wonderful creation of God, each with their own gifts and talents.
Our educators believe that children are capable, competent and active learners, with the ability to make positive contributions to their community. We view children, learning, and development through a holistic and inclusive lens, where children’s current interests and strengths form the basis of our program. Children’s social, emotional, cognitive, physical and spiritual development is scaffolded through providing just the right balance of support and challenge for each individual, encouraging them to flourish into the wonderful plans God has for their lives.
Play is the foundation of our program and underpins all pedagogical approaches to children’s development and learning. Promoting playful experiences and interactions engages children’s curiosity and promotes positive attitudes towards new and familiar experiences. Our service implements the Early Years Learning Framework (Birth -5 years), the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines (Pre-Prep), and the My Time Our Place (School Age Care) curriculums where the notions of “being, belonging and becoming” are essential to providing children with opportunities for wellbeing, and success in learning and life.
Our education and care takes place in flexible indoor and outdoor spaces where children are encouraged to investigate the world around them through their senses, and to develop a natural curiosity and desire to learn. Children are supported to engage in challenging outdoor play experiences which facilitate the development of a confident self-identity, problem solving skills and growing independence and resilience.
We seek to collaborate with families and our local community through respectful, reciprocal relationships where we can positively plan, reflect upon, and implement quality programs for children. We believe that families are children’s first teachers and we seek to draw expertise about children from those who know them best. Our educators view their role as an extension of children’s home life and seek to partner with families, promoting understanding and respect in their interactions.
We strive to create a warm and welcoming environment where families, children, educators and visitors from diverse backgrounds feel valued and respected. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians and Elders of the Yugambeh Language Group/ Bundjalung Nation on whose land we respect, learn and walk upon. We believe that connectedness is vital for each individual involved with our service, and that children have the right and need to feel connected and secure within their environments. It is our responsibility to support children by acknowledging our past, being in the moment, and setting attainable goals for the future.
Our leadership team promotes and supports ongoing reflection and continuous improvement within the service. Educators are empowered, respected and guided in practical ways which promote continuity, innovative approaches, professional learning, and excellence in early childhood education and care.
